Tibetan components: Left: Amulet container "gau", early
mid-20th century, chased and repoussed silver with fired
gold wash with high-bezeled turquoise nugget, brass rear.
This type of ornament is widely used
throughout sub- Himalaya tribes who follow Buddhism. The
gau is a "complex" of form, function and symbolism--holds
